Service Brokers That Work for You! - Kevin Rutten, Fivetwenty Inc
Wednesday October 9, 2024 14:15 - 14:40 CEST
The Create Service workflow has empowered Cloud Foundry Developers for years, but we have seen many places wrestle with Enterprise grade data services vs the simplicity of the Create Service workflow. We want you to see how we are bridging the gap. We will show you the next generation of service broker, that combine the CF BrokerAPI service with Blacksmith (a service to create services with BOSH), a simple interface to create services with scripting (scripts to create RDS, CloudDB, MongoDB Enterprise, etc) and handle the secrets generated, with a UI that the Data Team can use to manage all the services the way they want to, included “pre-allocated services”. We will talk about “Temperature Gauge”, our tool to add monitoring to services via Prometheus Node Exporter, or other tools that can provide basic metrics to the dashboard for monitoring and alerting. We can forward alerts to the Developer, the Operators, and Data Team, so no team is left blind anymore. Show how we can help automate the backups for services in PCF/OCF Finally, we will discuss upgrading services, and multi-home services (add the same Blacksmith to two CF's in different regions and share a service)

Everything You Need to Know About Syslog Drains - Hands on Edition - Jovan Kostovski, SAP SE
Wednesday October 9, 2024 14:55 - 15:10 CEST
Loggregator, the Cloud Foundry's Logging and Metrics Stack, enables different ways of collecting and sending logs and metrics to third party logs and metrics management solutions. In this talk, Jovan will summarize the possible ways of collecting logs and metrics from Cloud Foundry, give a detailed description of Syslog Drains, compare them with Firehose Nozzles and show why the Syslog Drains are the best and most reliable way to collect logs and metrics from Cloud Foundry. From the experience gathered at SAP with Syslog Drains, a few common problems were detected when using Syslog Drains. Jovan will go through the common problems when building CF apps and configuring and using Syslog Drains, will show how to troubleshoot and fix these problems, which tools can be used for that and how to monitor Syslog Drains. The application developers as well as the platform operators can see and hear how to leverage Syslog drains without disturbing the others on the platform and how to monitor that everything is working properly. Everything will be backed with many practical hands-on examples, so that this talk can be a guide for everyone working with or troubleshooting Syslog Drains.

IPv6 in Cloud Foundry - Status Update - Alexander Lais, SAP SE
Wednesday October 9, 2024 15:25 - 15:35 CEST
At the CF Day 2024 NA in May we discussed adding IPv6 or Dual Stack support for Cloud Foundry. There are clear technical and business benefits to supporting IPv6, but almost every component may need some form of adaptation or at least awareness of IPv6. This talk is intended as a status and progress update on the many different tasks and discussions that are happening in the community. The content will be fresh off the presses, showing the latest available information as it is in October 2024.
